Migratory Bird Day is held on the 2nd Saturday of May in the US. It is a day to recognize migratory birds and the importance of protecting their habitats. These habitats have been decreasing at a higher rate over the past couple of decades which have also caused the bird populations to decrease.
What to do on Bird Day
- Take a bird walk – download the Audubon Bird Guide app so you can identify bird that you see!
- Build a bird house
- Put out bird feeders
- Plant trees, flowers, and other plants that are native to your area. Small ‘islands’ of habitat can provide food resources to birds, particularly during migration.
