June 18 is International Picnic Day! The word ‘picnic’ originates from the French language and may have started as “pique un niche,” which means “pick a spot,” a place where family and friends could rest and enjoy a meal together away from the distractions, demands, and public nature of communal life. It eventually morphed into the word “pique-nique.”
